Raising precious, sweet goldendoodles with amazing
temperament in our home on the farm.
Twelve years ago I had the yearning for a golden retriever I once had over 30 years ago. I wanted my "PoohBear," the best dog ever but I was so allergic to him. I knew in my heart I could never have one again. While searching the internet I came across the "goldendoodle." Not having any idea what this was, all I needed to know it was part golden retriever and mixed with a poodle to cut back the shedding and allergies. They were touted as "hypoallergenic" and "non-shedding." I was so excited but still had no idea if I was going to be allergic to this puppy. I wanted to take the chance, yes, an expensive chance but would it be worth it? Oh yes, it was a match made in heaven. Lexidoodle is an amazing pet who brings us so much joy we felt we needed to provide them to others.
While I would never say goldendoodles are "non-shedding" (we all shed!) I will say, they do not leave hair all over your clothes, floor or furniture, but you may find a dust bunny under a chair once in a while - this is typically when their hair is longer and in need for some grooming. As for "hypoallergenic"... well, I am highly allergic to dogs but I am not allergic to any of our pups, however, if I was licked on my face or arms, I always wash up as the saliva could cause allergies.
Goldendoodles are true characters and definitely indoor dogs. If they're not in the bathroom with you, be careful stepping out because they will be laying at the door waiting for you. They will follow you like a shadow throughout the house - they could be sound asleep but as soon as they hear you get up and go to another room, they are right there behind you. When you sit down for the evening, be sure to save them room as they will want to snuggle up at your feet or on your chest. Take them outside and watch their zoomies. They'll run round and round in circles but learn the boundaries quickly. You'll find yourself talking to them and they'll look at you as if they truly understand what you're saying. We find ourselves saying how "human-like" they are. I lost my mother in 2018 at 94 yrs young. On Sundays we always had dinner together and Lexidoodle would be right at her feet, unseen, not begging, just there to be with her. As soon as we would finish our dinner, Lexi would pop up at the table to get into the conversation. My mother always got such a kick out of her, a great well behaved companion.
Whether they are 30 or 50 lbs, they'll want to be your snuggle bug and give you lots of doodle kisses. They do need to be either professionally groomed or you can fully groom yourself every six to eight weeks, along with daily brushing to avoid matting- the trick is to be sure you are getting down to their skin and not just brushing the top layers. If you can put a comb through their hair, you'll know your brushing was successful! Our puppies will at least know the commands "sit down," "let's go outside," "let's go inside." They will be 95% potty trained at eight weeks old and will be easy to groom, bathe, blow dry, cut and trim nails. Remember, going to a new home may bring some anxiety/stress to your new puppy, so "accidents" may happen.
We have been very busy with the following as each pup grows:
1. Began early neuro stimulation at 3 days old;
2. Work with each puppy daily;
3. Began potty training at 3 weeks old;
4. Started pups on mush at 3 weeks old;
5. Puppies began to explore the outdoors at three weeks of age;
6. Puppies are stimulated with appropriate age play time;
and we continue their training while providing lots of love.
We strive on temperament so the puppies will be very well adjusted,
easy to groom and trimming nails a breeze. We want the puppy to
be your new best friend.
